Headboard for Sale on eBay

The ALRS has been donated a headboard to sell and the funds raised to go towards the Where the Rainbow Cafe Appeal. The item is a ‘Mirror Group Newspapers Special’ headboard used on a mainline steam excursion on 31 August 1987. Locomotive LNER A3 4472 ‘Flying Scotsman’ carried it on the route Settle and Carlisle from Manchester.

Delays to Cafe Move

The preparation work required has not been possible so far, but, the good news is it has been scheduled for the 6th November, so the working party planned for this weekend has again had to be postponed I’m afraid.

Rainbow Cafe on the Move!

Well the wait is almost over! If all goes according to plan in the next few days, the ALRS will be able to start dismantling the ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ café in Clay Cross on October 19. Therefore the Society will be holding its very first working weekend over 19-21 October, which will (hopefully) see the cafe taken down and put into secure storage while work on the planning applications for its future use are completed.

The Society took its sales stand to the postponed Cromford steam fair on 22nd and 23rd September. Indeed it was sandwiched between torrential rain and mini tornadoes with great success! The stall, which had grown since the Ashover Show, now boasts a wider variety of merchandise and shelter from the elements!

Cafe Appeal, Radio Interviews and More!

An appeal has now been launched on this site to help raise the necessary funds to reinstate the cafe to it’s former home of Ashover Butts. It is accessible by clicking on ‘Appeal’ in the right hand menu. Also Chairman Gary Boyd-Hope will be making another ‘appearance’ on BBC Radio Derby sometime next week. Please note this has changed from the time original published. Details of the date and time will be added onto this article, so watch this space!

Ashover Revivalists Secure Historic Cafe

The old ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ cafe, once a focal point for passengers travelling on the Ashover Light Railway, looks set to return to its original location thanks to a joint venture between its current owners and the ALRS.

First AGM A Great Success

The Society’s first Annual General Meeting took place at The Old Poets’ Corner in Ashover on May 19th, and was heralded as a success by all those in attendance. A total of 26 members were present, with some having travelled down from Scotland and up from the Thames Estuary. Given that the membership tally is still growing after only eight months of existence, the turnout was very good indeed.
