Walking the ALR
Firstly, it has to be noted that unlike some other former railways in Derbyshire and nearby Staffordshire (Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail, Monsal Trail, Five Pits Trail, Manifold valley) there are no rights of way covering the length of the ALR trackbed. The section under Ogston reservoir also presents a problem until such time as a snorkel becomes an everyday part of walking equipment!
However, it is still possible to enjoy walks that give some access to the ALR.
The ALRS has published a series of six walking leaflets that can be purchased via mail order from the ALRS sales/merchandise page on this website, or via Ebay.
1. Clay Cross Works to Holmgate.
2. Clay Cross to Stretton.
3. Stretton and Ogston.
4. Ogston to Fallgate.
5. Milltown and Fallgate Quarries.
6. Ashover and the Butts.
We hope you enjoy your walks.
