Rainbow Ends… it’s days in Clay Cross

After an unexpected series of delays, the former ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ cafe was finally dismantled between 22nd-24th November; securing a piece of genuine ALR history for use in the railway’s revival.

Using a team of contractors and a small but willing band of volunteers, the octagonal timber building, once the focal point at Ashover Butts, has been placed in storage whilst the structure is assessed and work progresses on our plans for the building’s re-erection.

Rainbow Cafe on the Move!

Well the wait is almost over! If all goes according to plan in the next few days, the ALRS will be able to start dismantling the ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ cafĂ© in Clay Cross on October 19. Therefore the Society will be holding its very first working weekend over 19-21 October, which will (hopefully) see the cafe taken down and put into secure storage while work on the planning applications for its future use are completed.

Ashover Revivalists Secure Historic Cafe

The old ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’ cafe, once a focal point for passengers travelling on the Ashover Light Railway, looks set to return to its original location thanks to a joint venture between its current owners and the ALRS.
