The AGM Auction 2008

Those members that attended last year’s AGM will know that at the end of the business proceedings we held an auction of ALR related items (books and tickets etc.) to raise funds for the Society. This made almost £300 and has enabled us to progress with our railway revival scheme. Therefore with our 2008 AGM set to take place on May 10, we have gathered another selection of items that might be of interest. These are:

• A fully restored 12” railway type clock, uniquely lettered ‘ALRS’, and rebuilt especially for this auction.

• An original and genuine ALR ticket.

• A signed, framed, limited edition print (number 1/200) of Eric Leslie’s superb watercolour entitled ‘Where the Rainbow Ends’.

• A signed copy of the Oakwood Press book ‘The Ashover Light Railway’ by Ken Plant.

• A signed copy of the book ‘Narrow Gauge at War’ by Keith Taylorson.

• A signed copy of the book ‘Narrow Gauge at War Vol 3: Light Tracks From Arras’ by Keith Taylorson.

• A Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway summer timetable poster (approx 30” x 18”) dating from the 1960s

• A signed, framed original pen and ink drawing (7” x 5”) of an ALR Baldwin, lightly hand coloured by Sarah Hopkinson.

• A framed pen and ink print of ‘Quarry Hunslet’ King of the Scarlets at work in the Dinorwic Quarry in North Wales.

• A brand new hardback copy of the 2007 book ‘Railways & Rural Life: SWA Newton and the Great Central Railway’ by Gary Boyd-Hope and Andrew Sargent. Gary will sign and dedicate the book to the winner on the day.

• A hardback copy of “Where the Rainbow Ends” - A fairy story by Clifford Mills based on the fairy play of the same name by Clifford Mills and John Ramsey.

• A framed blank cheque - yes really! From the Ulster Railway Company. Constructed between 1835-1870, it was the second Railway Company to be built in the whole of Ireland, although it was the First railway to carry both Goods and Passengers.

With so much on offer, and seeing as not everyone can actually be at the AGM, the Society is opening this auction up to postal, e-mail and telephone bids.

So if you can’t be at the AGM, but would like a chance at winning one of the items, please send a sealed bid, giving details of which item(s) you wish to purchase (separate bids for individual items only) to:

ALRS Secretary
Russell Prince
76 New Road

To arrive no later than Friday morning. E-mail bids should be sent to r.prince@alrs.org.uk by 5.00pm on Friday evening.
