ALRS Gets its Railway (if only in miniature)

Further to the news item posted on December 2, 2006 and information given in the ALRS in-house magazine, we can now announce that an agreement has been reached with the owner of the late Clifford Wragg’s working model layout of the Ashover Light Railway, and we hope to take possession sometime in the very near future.

This is an exciting development for us as it will assist in promotion of the Society at local and national events, and enable us to illustrate some parts of the real ALR that we hope to reinstate.

Built in the ‘016.5’ (7mm) scale, the layout measures 21ft in length and features recognised sections of the ALR including:

· Butts Quarry with working features such as a generator and screens.
· The Where The Rainbow Ends Café.
· Stretton Station.
· A61 Pirelli bridge.
· Clay Cross works with engine sheds and electric lights.
· The Tippler - a working model operated independently.

The layout also includes two Baldwin locomotives, PEGGY and JOAN, and two diesel locomotives, AMOS and the Planet. There are many D class bogie wagons carrying limestone or coal, a tar wagon, and small tub trucks in the Butts Quarry.

It’s a really wonderful model, and the Society is deeply indebted to the owner for making such a generous gift to us.
