AGM 2010 brief
Thursday, May 27th, 2010At the recent AGM of the Ashover Light Railway Society founding member Gary Boyd-Hope and membership secretary Carol Hope relinquished their positions as Trustees. Carols position has been filled by Dale Coton. Chairman Richard Booth paid tribute to both during their sterling work over the past 4 years since the Society had been conceived. Gary in an open letter to the Society revealed when he set the society up he never saw himself in the Chairman’s seat but over the past 12 months Richard had proved himself to be an incredible motivator, he also back the current trustees and encouraged members to show wholehearted backing. Carol, during her farewell statement revealed that Mr Richard Jackson had made contact with Society Secretary Russell Prince and as a result become a member. This is of major significance as Mr. Jackson’s father was Guy Jackson, who gave his name to the engine ‘GUY’.

The ALRS were very honoured that Dennis Skinner, the legendary MP for Bolsover, agreed to present the replica “Peggy” nameplate to lucky prize winner Roger Gillard of Malvern.

The illustration shows the draw taking place. The nameplate can be seen resting against the bulkhead of carriage no.4. How many years is it since Peggy’s name was in the same place as the carriage?

Talyllyn Railway Dolgoch appeal
Saturday, November 7th, 2009In 1951 railway preservation moved into a new era when enthusiasts took over the operation of the Talyllyn railway. From these small seeds all railway preservation in the U.K. has grown.
There is currently an appeal to fund a replacement boiler for locomotive No2 (Dolgoch) which operated the Talyllyn services single handedly during the crucial first year.
The ALRS recommends support for the Dolgoch appeal, and not just because several of the founder members of the ALRS have had associations with the Talyllyn !
