ALRS & the postal dispute

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

It would be much appreciated if anybody who has recently ordered merchandise could email or phone Graham Ludlam (contact details are on this website or in WTRE) to confirm its safe arrival, or to report non arrival after a reasonable time has elapsed.

Obviously there can be delays in your order form being delivered to us, and in your orders being delivered to your mail address.

Thanks.

Have you read yours yet?

Issue 12 of WTRE (Where The Rainbow Ends), the “in house” magazine of the Ashover Light Railway Society.

This magazine is sent free of charge to ALRS members.  Please see the Merchandise page to purchase back copies at £2.50 each (free p & p) and a binder to keep them in or, better still, the Membership page for a downloadable membership form to ensure you get all future editions.

Peggy & Bridget came home after over 50 years

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Yes, it did happen!  Peggy and Bridget did meet up at the society’s AGM.  The nameplates from these two Baldwin locos did return to Ashover, and were unexpectedly joined by a Joan nameplate as well.

In fact Peggy’s whistle also put in an appearance, as well as many other artefacts from the old ALR.  Considering the fact that it will soon be 60 years since the closure of the railway it is surprising the amount of material that is still available.  Newly discovered items are still turning up.

(Note:-Peggy’s nameplate and whistle were on display courtesy of the NGRM, Tywyn)

Archive Film

At the 2009 AGM/Exhibition there were two film clips of ALR interest.

One was of 1969 vintage showing the removal of one of the ex W.D. “D” class trucks from Fallgate. Following this link will direct you to the Youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQIBEPjmJ44

For copyright reasons I cannot put a direct link to the second clip of the Wembley carriages running at the British Empire Exhibition.  However, if you visit the BritishPathe site and enter a suitable search string you should be successful.
